We are a funding source

LISFC routinely partners with regional 501C3 organizations whose interest in the health of Long Island aligns with our own. Our Stewardship Fund has, since 2019, made 60 grants totaling almost $2.9 million.

Where to direct funding requests

We accept funding requests directly through the Long Island Sound Stewardship Fund (LISSF), which pools our investments, expands our grant-making, and optimizes the impact of our partnerships.

The LISSF, administered by the New York Community Trust, Long Island Office, funds projects that provide for a healthy, productive, and resilient Sound now and into the future. It serves as a good example of how funding collaborative projects amplifies their positive impact.

What the LIS Stewardship Fund seeks to accomplish
  • Through the LISSF, we fund nongovernmental organizations working on the critical projects set forth in the Long Island Sound Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan.
  • Partnering with grant seekers helps build stronger nongovernmental organizations.
  • Collaboration sparks environmental innovation.
  • In funding partners, we accelerate the application of proven tools and strategies.
How much funding is available through LISSF?

Up to $500,000 can available for grants annually.
